Longitudinal Survey of Low-Income Students

The Longitudinal Survey of Low-Income Students (L-SLIS), or the MESA student survey, was the centrepiece of the MESA project. It was designed to combine both survey and administrative data over a three-year period from students who both received and did not receive a Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation access bursary.  In the survey, students were asked questions about their family backgrounds, their educational experiences in secondary and post-secondary education, their views about the importance of education, and some questions related to their finances and use of time. 

The survey was initiated in 2007, and tens of thousands of students from across Canada participated during that year; a follow-up survey was conducted in 2008 and the third year of the survey was conducted between January and March 2009.
